Biography

Bekir Sait Ciftler, received the BS degree from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey, in 2011; MSc degree from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at TOBB University of Economics and Technology, Ankara, Turkey, in 2013. His PhD degree is from Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of Florida International University, Miami, FL, USA in 2017.

His research currently focuses on Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning Applications for Wireless Communications as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar Foundation, Doha, Qatar.

Prior to joining Hamad Bin Khalifa University (Qatar Foundation, Doha, Qatar), he was working for P.I. Works in Istanbul, Turkey as a Machine Learning Researcher / Solution Architect. He worked at North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC as a Visiting Research Assistant between August 2016 – August 2017. From May 2016 to August 2016, he had an internship at Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories (MERL), Boston, MA, USA. He had two short term internships at Qatar Mobility and Innovation Center, Doha, Qatar in May-June 2014 and 2015.

Research Interests

  • Machine Learning & Optimization: Federated Learning & Deep Reinforcement Learning applications for Wireless Networks
  • Privacy and Cybersecurity: Privacy-preserving AI techniques against eavesdropping, jamming and spoofing attacks.
  • Positioning and tracking: Localization systems based on IoT connectivity through mmWave, 5G NR, LTE, RFID, WiFi, UWB.
  • Smart Buildings & Smart Cities Occupancy detection and counting systems for energy-efficiency in smart environments.
  • Software Defined Radios: Implementation of various wireless systems with USRPs and other SDR as well as IoT devices.
